Description - Central Poland

The area of the Łódź Province is 5.8% of the total area of Poland. Lodz, the provincial capital, is the third largest Polish city, with approx. 750,000 population. Łódź and nearby cities form an urban agglomeration with over 1.1 million population. Average population density in the province is approx. 140 persons per sq. km. Unemployment rate is currently 11.6%, which is the Polish average.

The province is strategically located in the heart of Poland. The province's location was of historic significance and is still of a great importance for the economic development of the region. The planned location of the intersection of A2 west-east highway and A1 north-south highway is very convenient for a number of companies. Local road infrastructure is also very well developed in the entire province.

Central Poland has been very welcoming to investors, offering them not only good location but also industrial traditions, highly-qualified workforce (with 21 colleges and universities in the region enrolling approx. 110 thousand students) and attractive investment incentives. The region is one of the most highly competitive areas in Poland. World-leading companies such as P&G, Dell, Fujitsu, Bosch, Gilette, Indesit have invested in the region. Business process offshoring (BPO) sector has also been growing rapidly.

The region currently has 8 active industrial parks with a total area of nearly 1 million sq. m. Three key locations can be identified: Łódź, Stryków (A2 highway intersection) and Piotrków Trybunalski (S8 express road). The city of Łódź and its surroundings have been of the highest significant due to easy access to workforce and the dynamic growth of the Special Economic Zone. The presence of the Łódź Economic Zone and the new investment project by Dell have spurred the interest from the largest property developers operating on the Polish market, which have been creating lease space for subcontractors in the electronic sector.

The Łódź Economic Zone was established in 1997 and since then, businesses from numerous production and service sectors, in particular from the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, household appliance, IT and paper industries, have been developing their projects there.
