Description - Poznan

The Greater Poland Province (Wielkopolska), with its capital in Poznań, is one of the largest provinces in Poland. Population density is also high at 114 persons per sq. km. Unemployment rate is 9%, which is below the Polish average.

The region is superbly located in respect of transit routes to and from Western Europe. The transit traffic runs via A2 highway south of Poznań. When the entire A2 highway soon reaches the German border and Warsaw, as planned, the main transit route from Western Europe to Russia will be significantly enhanced. Accordingly, the region serves as a perfect staging point for foreign investors in their business relations with Eastern Europe. No. 5 international road, which passes through Poznań and Leszno, leads to Prague and further into southern Europe.

The province also has a well developed railroad network and ”Ławica” international airport in Poznan.

There is a strong industrial presence in the region, in particular in vehicle manufacture, machine manufacture, electrical equipment manufacture and furniture production branches. Ship engines, buses, rail and tramway units are manufactured in Poznan. No Special Economic Zone has been established in the province. However, there are subzones of Kamienna Góra, Kostrzyń – Słubice, Łódź and Wałbrzych Special Economic Zones operating in the province.

A number of investment parks has been established, providing excellent logistical and technical support for investors, who also enjoy tax cuts. Main such parks include Wielkopolskie Centrum Logistyczne, located near Konin next to A2 highway, Śremski Park Inwestycyjny and Grodziska Strefa Przemysłowa.

Poznan and its vicinity have long been the second largest warehouse market in Poland, second only to Warsaw. The reasons for that included the city's good location near the road and railroad route from Berlin to Warsaw and further into Russia, the region’s vibrant economy and a large consumer market. Presently, the city has fallen behind the rapidly growing warehouse market in Silesia. Most parks are situated along A2 highway. In line with the development and construction of new warehouse and production space in the area, the interest in leasing space from  production companies has been on the rise in that area recently.

Currently, total modern warehouse and industrial space in the region is nearly 900,000 sq. m (as at the end of 2010). The facilities are situated mainly along A2 highway and S11 national express road.

Besides automotive companies such as Volkswagen, production clients of the parks include manufacturing companies such as Samsung, Amica, Swedewood i Bridgestone (IKEA), Kraft Foods, Nesatle, Wrigley, SAB Miller (Kompania Piwowarska), GlaxoSmithKline and MAN.

Of note is also a project by HHLA (Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG) from Germany, which has been developing a multimodal cargo terminal (near the existing PolZug container terminal).
