Auchan will launch a new warehouse in Upper Silesia in the new GLP Lędziny logistics center

Auchan Retail Polska will launch another warehouse in the Upper Silesia region, with direct access to the Expressway S1, in GLP logistics center in Lędziny, one of the most modern investments of this type in Poland. This is the first stage of Auchan's logistic infrastructure transformation, which is in line with the new Supply Chain and Logistics strategy of the chain. 54,000 sqm of the modern warehouse and office space will be built to support the storage of food products, including fresh products requiring special conditions.

The new Auchan warehouse in GLP Park Lędziny will benefit from the proximity of the local market and the cooperation with the local suppliers, offering local products. It will serve to optimize the company's distribution network, and provide the customers with the highest quality and safety of the food offered. The facility will be completed in accordance with the requirements of the BREEAM environmental certification at a “Very Good” level. This way it will support the chain's goals in the area of sustainable development, in particular reduction of the carbon footprint.

– This investment is the best indication of the direction in which the redevelopment of our logistics infrastructure is heading. We focus on modern technologies, better use of the building, proximity to both our customers and suppliers - these elements will also be repeated in the next stages of this restructuring. This is also part of the preparations for the expansion of our new convenience store concept under the Easy Auchan brand, implemented in cooperation with bp. In this regard it is a strategic location for us – says Piotr Dopierała, Supply Chain & Logistics Director in Auchan Retail Polska. – Choosing the right partners for such an important project is crucial. We appreciate not only the advantages of a modern warehouse and its location but also GLP's experience as an industrial property developer and manager, an innovative company committed to long-term relations with its clients on the partnership terms – says Piotr Dopierała.

– The project in Lędziny is developed in line with the new standard for logistics properties - GLP Design Standard. Auchan warehouse will be distinguished by a storage height - increased to 12 meters, and the completion area deepened to 24 meters, which is twice as much as in a typical warehouse. It is also an environmentally friendly building. We have solar-ready rooftops, electric vehicle charging stations, as well as an above-standard number of skylights, aimed to reduce the use of artificial light and make working conditions healthier - says Christophe Brzeziński, Head of Technical Development at GLP Poland.

The conceptual work on the new warehouse was supported by the team of Graphene Partners, while the selection of a specific location and developer, as well as the process of defining the terms of cooperation between Auchan Retail Polska and GLP were again carried out by JLL.

– One of our main goals was to create an energy-efficient and modern distribution center, meeting the requirements of Auchan and minimizing the carbon footprint. Time was also crucial in this case. Thanks to the excellent cooperation between Auchan, Graphene Partners, JLL and GLP, both the process of searching for a location and negotiating a contract went very smoothly and ended with a success – said Tomasz Mika, Director of Industrial Department in Poland in JLL.

Construction of the warehouse will be carried out in two stages and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2022. The rental agreement for the building has been signed by Auchan Retail Polska for 10 years.
