A distribution centre launched in the SEGRO logistics park

A new Tesco distribution centre has been officially opened in SEGRO Logistics Park Poznań, Komorniki. This tailor-made 30,200 sqm facility will house 12,300 products. Every 20 minutes, they will be leaving the warehouse to be delivered to 119 Tesco stores.

Tesco’s warehouse will be serviced by 95 trucks delivering products from the suppliers on a daily basis. It will feature 29,000 pallet spaces, with 150 forklifts driving 6750 km each day. Trucks will be able to park in 50, and later as many 90 parking spaces. To meet the client’s needs, SEGRO has constructed a repair shop and a car wash for delivery trucks.

Being located in the immediate vicinity of the A2 motorway – which serves as a transport corridor linking Eastern and Western Europe – SEGRO Logistics Park Poznań, Komorniki will help Tesco decrease the yearly mileage of its delivery trucks by as much as 12.9 percent. This will reduce the CO2 emission factor by 6.7 percent.

Tesco’s distribution centre, consisting of a dry food warehouse, an office area and a canteen for employees, was constructed by SEGRO – a warehouse and industrial space developer – in just six months.

“The delivery time and the quality of this investment project are extremely important. Other important considerations include ecological solutions: both those applied in the construction process and those which will affect the building’s maintenance. The distribution centre in Komorniki can be held up as an example for other developments of this type in the entire Europe,” says Adam Manikowski, Country Lead, Tesco Polska.
