An important section of the S5 expressway has been opened

A 15-kilometre section of the S5 route from Korzeńsko to Żmigród has been put into use. The road is part of the Lower Silesian section of the S5 route which connects Wrocław and Poznań.

The new 15 km section from Korzeńsko to Żmigród has two lanes in both directions, with the possibility of constructing a third lane. There are two junctions and 14 bridges on the route, including a 740-metre bridge over the rivers Barycz and Młynówka.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, it is the first of three parts of the Lower Silesian section of S5, which is supposed to be almost 50 km long. Work is underway on the sections Marcinowo to the Wrocław North junction (20 km) and Krościn to Marcinowo (13 km), which are scheduled to open in December.

The S5 is a Polish expressway running north to south along the S7 and A8 motorways. It will connect Grudziądz, the A1 motorway and the agglomerations of Bydgoszcz/Toruń, Poznań and Wrocław, and will also work as a shortcut to Olsztyn.
